Water in Solberg Hall has been shut off because of a water main break, according to an email from Mark Blackburn sent early Thursday afternoon.
Restrooms, showers and drinking fountains will not work until the water leak is located and fixed, according to the email. Excavators are working to fix the water main break.
According to Dean of Students Mark Blackburn, the leak was located around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, and should be fixed in about an hour if the leak is small. Water in Solberg Hall was originally shut off around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
It is unknown if the damage is a result of Tuesday’s three EF-2 tornadoes according to Blackburn.
The Campus Clinic, housed in the basement of Solberg, will be closed for the remainder of the day. Administration is directing students to the Sanford Health Clinic located on 69th St. and Minnesota Ave. Students should call (605)328-5800 if in need of medical care.
Freshman Sophie Burrow lives in Solberg Hall, and said residents have been walking to nearby Bergsaker Hall and the Elmen to shower and use the restrooms. She said with large numbers of students using both spaces, the water is very cold.
“Nobody likes to be dirty,” the psychology and journalism major said. “But it’s annoying to have to walk to the Elmen Center to shower.”
