Hello readers, this is Jacob Belgum, your editor-in-chief for the next 18 issues of the Augustana Mirror.
I hope it’s a bumpy ride.
I hope so because we will be seeking truth, which is often uncomfortable and difficult to find. We will look all over because the truth is worth it.
It will take your help. I’ve received probably two emails in my three years writing for the Mirror.
During that time, I’ve been more likely to receive an email from a real Nigerian prince than from an Augustana student. Your feedback can propel our mission.
News tips help, too! Our small staff works hard, but we don’t get paid enough to investigate every nook and cranny of Augustana.
Frankly, there are some nooks I’d rather avoid (I’m talking to you, East Hall bat lairs). Email us with ideas for stories. If you desire anonymity, we will honor that.
I hope you enjoy reading our paper. Even if you don’t, you should pretend to read it while in the dining hall—you’ll appear intelligent.
The people of Augustana are, like any population, capable of good deeds and bad.
When a new club works to improve the community, we’ll try to let you know.
When someone messes up in a way that negatively affects the community, we’ll try to inform you of those transgressors.
I’m a senior.
I don’t have much left to say or much time to say it. To those younger than I, cherish these years.
I know you’re sick of hearing it, but they will fly. Pick up the paper; it might help you absorb the life Augustana has to offer.
